This practical guide explains paid WhatsApp group links for Indian creators who want a clearer payment, access, and member management process.
Why a normal invite link cannot work as a paid link
A normal WhatsApp invite link lets anyone who has it open the group and ask to join. The link can be copied, forwarded to another group, or posted on social media. Once it is shared, the group owner cannot tell from the link alone who paid and who got it for free.
So a paid group needs a step before the join link. The member should pay first, the payment should be checked by a payment provider, and only then should the member receive the group link. Selling the link on its own, or asking for a screenshot of a UPI payment, leaves the most room for mistakes and misuse.
The safer pattern: pay, verify, then join
A safer flow has four steps. The member opens a payment link for one group and one plan. The payment is verified with Razorpay on the server, not from a screenshot. After that, the membership is recorded and the join link is shown to the member.
The last step is approval. If the group admin has turned on the Approve new participants setting, the admin can let in only the numbers that have paid. This keeps the group link useful without leaving a public door open for everyone.
- The member chooses a plan on the group's payment link.
- The payment is verified by the payment provider.
- The membership is recorded with its start and end dates.
- The join link is shown only after verification.
- Paid numbers are approved to join the group.
What the member sees at each step
The member opens the payment link, picks a plan, and enters a name, WhatsApp number and email. They then pay using UPI, a card, netbanking or another method that the creator's Razorpay account has enabled. The member should use the same WhatsApp number at checkout that they will use to join the group.
On the next screen after a verified payment, the member sees the group join link. If the group uses approval, the member sends the join request from the same number. Explain these steps in the welcome message so that members do not think the payment failed while they wait for approval.
What to do if the invite link leaks
Even with a payment step, an invite link can be forwarded to someone who did not pay. When you notice this, reset the group invite link from the group's invite settings, so that the old link stops working for new joins. Share the new link only with members who have completed payment.
Resetting the link does not remove people who have already joined. Compare the current members with your payment records and remove anyone whose access has ended. Keep the rule that the link is for paid members visible in the group description or a pinned message.
Using MintLoop to create a paid group link
MintLoop lets a creator connect their own Razorpay account, so member payments go to that account. The creator also links a WhatsApp number to MintLoop as a linked device, similar to WhatsApp Web. MintLoop uses the open-source Baileys library and is not affiliated with WhatsApp or Meta.
Each group gets its own MintLoop payment link, which starts with www.mintloop.in/pay/. Members choose a plan, pay, and see the join link after MintLoop verifies the payment with Razorpay on the server. WhatsApp can restrict accounts, so keep a manual fallback, such as a backup admin and a written process for adding members.
Pair the payment link with approval for paid numbers
If the MintLoop-linked number is an admin of the group and the setting Approve new participants is on, MintLoop can approve join requests from numbers that have paid. This usually takes about a minute. Requests from numbers that have not paid are left for the admin to review.
The setting is found in Group info, then Group settings. Turn it on before you share the payment link. Without it, the payment link alone cannot stop an unpaid join request from reaching the group.
Implementation checklist
- Create one payment link for each paid group and plan.
- Verify every payment with the provider before sharing the join link.
- Turn on Approve new participants before sharing any link.
- Ask members to request to join from the number they paid with.
- Reset the invite link if it is forwarded outside paying members.
- Keep a manual fallback for admins if the integration is unavailable.
Frequently asked questions
Can I sell a WhatsApp group invite link directly?
You can share a link, but a plain invite link does not check payment. Anyone who has it can join, and it can be forwarded. A payment step before the join link is safer for paid groups.
Does a paid link guarantee that only paying members join?
Not on its own. Pair the payment link with the Approve new participants setting and an admin who looks after the group. Review members against payment records regularly.
Do members see the group link before they pay?
No. In the MintLoop flow, the join link is shown on the next screen after the payment is verified.
Where does the money go?
Member payments go to the creator's connected Razorpay account. MintLoop plan and platform fees, Razorpay processing charges and applicable taxes are separate, so check the current pricing before you set a price.
